Large-scale Russian Attacks Disrupt Electricity Across Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
The country's power facilities have faced escalating strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's aerial assaults have caused electricity outages in multiple districts of the capital city, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were injured while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and dealt with problems to water systems, according to local authorities.

Simultaneously, a young boy was fatally injured in a different assault in the Zaporizhzhia region in the southern area, according to local officials.

Moscow has intensified attacks on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "real steps" from partner nations to increase pressure on Moscow.

"What is required is not window dressing but strong steps - from the America, European nations and the G7 - in delivering air defence systems and implementing sanctions," he wrote in a public message.

Officials stated that numerous aerial vehicles and over thirty rockets attacked the country's power systems, describing such strikes as "cynical and calculated" and against "essential services" as winter approaches.

The energy minister said Russia was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were striving to fix the damage.

A wave of strikes struck energy infrastructure and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Multiple people wounded in the attacks on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from local officials.

Local officials said the metropolitan region came under intense attacks overnight. A young boy lost their life and three other people were hurt.

The attacks succeed periods of air raids in the territory, portions of which remain under the control of invading troops.

All of Ukraine is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to detect.

Government officials told journalists that Russia was intentionally trying to demolish the electrical infrastructure, with strikes already affecting gas facilities.

He said utility staff and officials were anticipating further attacks.
